The project was started by the Jacobs’ family whom themselves attended the school in the 1980’s and who felt that they would like to give back to their community. This project aims to raise funds and awareness for Alpha Primary School in Gelvandale, Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The project envisions being able to complete the library, build a school hall, restore the playing fields, start up the garden project and convert a classroom into a functional kitchen. All these needs were identified by the staff at the school when they completed a needs assessment in early 2014. There is also a plan to create a mentorship scheme and monthly motivational talks to the learners in assembly to inspire and encourage them. The project works in partnership with school staff, learners and community members to fundraise and to create a school environment that is conducive to learning. The project believes that children have the right to an education as they are the future leaders of the country and the world. The project is currently going through the process of becoming a trust so as to sustain the project for the foreseeable future.
